The UK's Top 20 best-performing artists in 1977 are listed below. Foreign acts occupy five of the top six places - three acts from the US plus one each from Germany and Sweden. Showaddywaddy were the best performing British group. Elvis Presley spent the most weeks in the Top 50, but this was due to a flurry of re-releases after his death. His CHAMP score reflects that only one of these (It's Now Or Never) reached the lower reaches of the Top 40. The Stranglers were the biggest punk group in "the year of punk" ahead of the Sex Pistols.
